The Association of Chartered Certified Accountants (ACCA) is one of the world’s leading accountancy organizations. Its members are internationally recognized in public practice, industry, commerce and the public sector. ACCA membership also allows you to obtain status as a Register Member of Malaysia Institute of Accountants (MIA), and hold the title Chartered Accountant (CA).

 

The ACCA Professional Scheme:

ACCA’s Professional Scheme is a highly relevant, targeted combination of study and practical experience. Future employers will be aware of your ability and potential, because the ACCA qualification is highly regarded throughout the world.

 

The exams ensure that you have the necessary theoretical knowledge required to work as a finance professional in any sector. In addition, the practical work-based experience enables you to demonstrate that you can apply the theoretical knowledge you have acquired in an effective way.

 

ACCA entry requirements:

The minimum entry age is 18 years, 2 principal passes (at least C and above) from STPM/A Levels with 5 SPM or equivalent in separate subjects including English and Mathematics OR age 21 with no formal academic qualification (Mature Student Entry Route).

 

You will be allowed up to ten years to complete all exam papers from the date of registration.

By 31 March – for June exams

By 30 September – for December exams

 

Exemptions:

Relevant graduates may be awarded some exemptions for papers in Parts 1 and 2. An exemption fee must be paid for each paper awarded. Contact ACCA for further information.

Computer-based exams (CBE)

CBEs are available for Papers 1.1 and 1.2 only of the Professional Scheme. Please contact the College for details of CBE fees and dates.

 

Exam regulations:

• You must sit for 14 papers.

• You may sit between one and four papers per exam sittings.

• Paper must be sat in numerical order unless you have been awarded an exemption.

• You must complete all Part 1 papers before sitting any Part 3 papers.

• For Part 3, two optional papers must be chosen and at least one completed before the core papers are     sat.

• The three core papers must be sat together. They may be attempted alongside an optional paper or a remaining Part 2 paper provided one optional paper has been passed.

Background:

The Certified Accounting Technician (CAT) qualification is structured and examined by ACCA. It is ACCA’s vocational, open entry introduction to accounting. The Scheme is designed to equip you with all the necessary technical skills and knowledge required to fulfill a support role in accountancy.

 

There is no time limit in completing the qualification and it offers anyone who has no formal qualifications the opportunity to pursue an internationally recognized qualification.

 

CAT entry requirements:

You must normally be age 16 or above to register, but there are no formal academic qualifications necessary. Malaysian students are required to obtain 2 credits in the SPM for the entry into the CAT Introductory Level.

Exemptions:

Holders of certain qualifications may receive exemptions from some of the papers.

Course progression:

Upon completion of the CAT exams and gaining one year’s relevant work experience, you will be eligible to apply for Certified Accounting Technician status and use the letters CAT after your name.

 

Should you wish to pursue your career further, completion of the CAT Scheme means you may enter ACCA at Part 2.

The final level examinations of CAT are of equivalent standard to the first year of a university degree.

Exam regulations:

• You only need to pass 9 papers unless exemptions are awarded.

• You can sit the papers in any order, taking as many or as few papers as you feel ready for at each exam session.

• However, ACCA would strongly advise you to sit the paper in numerical order and attempt not more than four papers per exam session.

• Exams at Introductory and Intermediate Levels and Paper 5 are of two hours duration.

• Exams at Advanced Level are of three hours in duration.

• You have the choice of sitting computer-based or paper-based exams for papers at Introductory and Intermediate Levels.

Background:

ACCA has developed a unique relationship with Oxford Brookes University (United Kingdom), which enable ACCA students to gain a BSc (Hons) in Applied Accounting.

 

Completion of the degree helps to develop and demonstrate your research and analysis skills, invaluable skills for future professional development. The degree compliments your ACCA studies and maximizes your employability.

 

Who is eligible for this degree:

ACCA students who have passed Parts 1 and 2 of the ACCA qualification are eligible to sit for an Oxford Brookes BSc Honours Degree in Applied Accounting.

 

What is required for the degree:

Students are required to complete two pieces of work (in addition to passing Parts 1 and 2 of the ACCA qualification) in order to demonstrate the ability to research, analyse and use key skills:

• Research and Analysis Project - 5,000 word report

• Key skill statement - a 1,500 word statement.

 

Your mentor:

It is a requirement from Oxford Brookes University that all students who wish to submit a research and analysis project must have a mentor and schedule formal meetings with this mentor during the period when the project is written.
